It’s surely too late to get a reservation for a romantic dinner tomorrow, for Valentine’s Day, so call now for Mother’s Day if you want to get into Joanne Trattoria, the new UWS restaurant opened by Lady Gaga’s parents. That’s what happens when a new restaurant with star power opens. Joanne Trattoria was opened earlier this month by Gaga’s parents, Joe and Cynthia Germanotta, and is named for his late sister, Lady Gaga’s beloved Aunt Joanne, who Gaga credits for encouraging her to get into show business. The Italian menu was created by Art Smith, who used to be Oprah’s personal chef, and it reflects his southern heritage, so grits replace polenta in some dishes. Everything is served family-style, which means huge portions large enough for two or three, meant to be shared. Joanne Trattoria is in the ground floor of a brownstone, at 68th Street and Columbus Avenue, under the bright red awning. It’s not exactly cheap — $25 to $30 for entrees — but still lot’s cheaper than tickets to a Lady Gaga concert. Call 212-721-0068 for reservations to Joanne Trattoria. Mangia!
