How’s this for a lunch deal — $8.75 for chicken, beef, or pork stew, plus a side of beans and rice, rice with veggies, or mashed plantain. And this lunch deal is served up through 6 PM, which makes it a great dinner deal, too. Where? At Mangu, a popular Dominican restaurant near Grand Central Station. The restaurant is about as wide as a lunch platter, so Mangu specializes in take-out, including breakfast specials that include Dominican sausage (longaniza) and fried cheese (quewso frito). Or, just take home a perfectly seasoned half a rotisserie chicken for $5.50, and some sides. For those who don’t know, Mangu is named for mangu, the Dominican staple of boiled cassava, which also is called yuca. Save room for dessert — caramel custard, also called flan, and Tres Leches, a dessert made of three different kinds of milk. I’m addicted to both. Mangu is at 158 East 45th Street, open Monday to Friday only, 7 AM to 6:30 PM.
