Good news for art lovers — New York’s Met Museum will be open seven days a week beginning this summer, along with The Cloisters, the equally fabulous Medieval museum in Washington Heights.
Appropriately the first Monday the two museums will be open regularly on Mondays is Monday, July 1st. The Met and Cloisters long have opened on the Mondays of three-day weekends, such as Labor Day and Presidents Weekend, but this will be year-round. Another change is opening time, which moves from 9:30 AM to 10 AM. But so far, pricing remains unchanged, at $25, $17 for Seniors, $12 for Students, and FREE for children 12 and under with a paying adult. Your ticket entitles you to visit both museums in the same day.
The Cloisters is my choice for one of the top peaceful, quiet, tranquil escapes in New York City. It is one of the destinations in my NYC paperback guidebook Peaceful Places NYC, and featured in yesterday’s USA Today article on where to escape the noise and crowds in NYC, Chicago and Washington, DC.
Save up to half on admission fees to the Met, Cloisters and other NYC attractions with CityPass.
Recently, the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) also announced it would be open daily, beginning May. It’s regular closing day is Tuesday, not Monday.
The Met and Cloisters had more than six million visitor s in 2012.
