And another one bites the dust — another independent, privately -owned local resource is closing in NYC. This time, it’s Manhattan Theater Source in the Village, a small theater for emerging playrights and actors. It closes forever at the end of December, and must clear the stacks and storage areas of its extensive collection of gently-used theatre books, sripts and screenplays. There’s a one-day sale on Sunday, December 4th, from noon to 6 PM, with everything priced at just $1 and $2. Name a playwright – Sophocles, Shakespeare, Sondheim, Shephard, Schaffer, and many, many more from A-Z. They’re all here, plus books on acting, costume and set design, and some costumes and theater memorabilia also is on sale. The goodbye sale is also a party, with free family fun activities throughout the day, including holiday decorating, and free entertainment by local musicians, some of whom play in Broadway shows. Manhattan Theater Source is at 177 MacDougal St. in the Village. Thanks to Jacqueline Margolis of the theater group Instant Shakespeare for alerting me to this very special — and sad — going out of business sale.
