Luminaries, one of New York City’s most popular FREE holiday light shows, returns for 2020 to dazzle us with color covering the canopy of the ten-story, glass-enclosed Winter Garden.
Its 650 giant LED lights are controlled by visitors, for a unique and ever-changing show of dancing colors and intensity.
Luminaries display opens on Friday, November 27th, the day after Thanksgiving, and will twinkle and glow daily 10am to 8pm through January 8.
There is a special five-minute light show with popular holiday music at the top of every hour.
Unlike past years, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, there is no grand opening party with entertainment and giveaways of holiday sweets.
Luminaries, designed by the LAB at Rockwell Group, is inspired by the season’s traditions of sharing, giving, and community.
The installation features a canopy of colorful lights emanating from hundreds of lanterns suspended among the palms.

Luminaries Wishes Support a Local Charity
Touchless wishing stations located on the ground allow visitors to send a motion-activated wish to the canopy of lanterns above, prompting a magical display of lights and colors.
The stations allow guests to send a “wish” to the lanterns above by placing their hands on the touch-sensitive stations.
Upon releasing their hands, color erupts in the canopy above, translating the wish into a mesmerizing display of colors that travel throughout the lanterns.
It’s pure magic for kids to “compose” the dancing lights above.
Once again this year, Brookfield Place will donate $1, up to $25,000 to a local charity for each wish.
This year it is to ROAR (Relief Opportunities for All Restaurants), which supports New York City restaurant employees facing unprecedented economic hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last year, the charity was The Grammy Foundation’s “The Grammy in the Schools” program, to provide music education for young people.
Also, several restaurants at Brookfield Place offer happy hour deals. .
LIGHT SHOWS (8am-10pm):
At the top of every hour, visit the Winter Garden for a special Luminaries light show featuring:
Winter Wonderland by Michael Bublé
Silver Bells by Tony Bennett
Carol of the Bells by The Bird and The Bee
Let It Snow by Pentatonix
The wishing experience follows the light show for approximately 55 minutes between 10am and 8pm.
ROAR is a community of restaurant owners and industry veterans with a mission to advocate for small restaurant businesses devastated by the effects of COVID-19, support restaurant workers suffering financial hardship, and help create a path to a sustainable future for the hospitality industry in New York.
s year, for every wish sent by the public, Arts Brookfield will donate $1 up to $25,000 to The Grammy Foundation’s “The Grammy in the Schools” program, to provide music education for young people.
