Wasabi, the popular London-based Japanese fast casual restaurant chain has opened its first US outpost, in Times Square. Wasabi specializes in sushi and Japanese hot food favorites, including bento boxes and noodle soups, as well as made-to-order salads and special sushi rolls. There are more than 50 types of sushi for as little as $1.50 for two pieces, which you can mix and match, to eat in or grab and go.
Reminder that this is Japanese Restaurant Month in NYC, through March 17, with participating restaurants offering special menus for as low as $12-$15.
Sushi choices at Wasabi include a selection of hosomaki (thin rolls), futomaki (fat rolls), nigiri (thinly sliced fish over rice), and gunkan (torpedo-shaped pieces). Wasabi also serves a selection of hand-rolls and onigiri, which are triangles of rice wrapped around a choice of savory filling like roast salmon or chicken teriyaki, and tied with nori.The hot food menu includes Japanese favorites chicken teriyaki, pork katsu rice, chicken katsu curry and salmon teriyaki, all made fresh, in-house throughout the day.
The first Wasabi location in the U. S. is at 561 Seventh Avenue, at 40th Street. There are plans to open additional locations
