The Late Show: how to get free tickets

POSTED BY
Evelyn Kanter

free tickets to TV show tapings

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is having its best ratings in months, thanks to current news headlines.  Here’s how to get FREE tickets to a taping at the Ed Sullivan Theater in NYC:

Tickets to the new Late Show with Stephen Colbert are available for specific dates, which you can chose, up to 90 days ahead of the date you want.

Dates which are sold out are clearly marked as such. Due to the large volume of requests for tickets, you may apply for tickets only once in a six-month period. Those who have already attended a show are not eligible to attend for another six months from the date of attendance.

Some rules for attending a TV show taping, including The Late Show:

  • All shows have strict admission policies to prevent the free tickets from being sold, and to prevent fights on the line for standby tickets or studio seating.
  • Dress appropriately, since you might be on TV during audience shots.
  • Shows reserve the right to deny you admission, even with a ticket, if you are dressed inappropriately for TV, appear to be “under the influence”, or otherwise behave in a loud, troublesome or offensive manner while you are on line.
  • You will have to pass airport-like security for some shows, including showing a valid photo ID with proof of age, so be sure to bring one.
  • Children under 16 are not permitted (18 for some shows) regardless whether a parent or other adult accompanies them.
  • While smartphones, tablets and other recording devices are permitted, they may not used during a taping. You will be ejected from the audience for using an electronic device for any reason during a taping.  Save your selfies or texting for before or after the taping.
  • Perhaps most important, some shows do not guarantee admission even with a ticket, so do not book airline tickets based on a ticket for a TV show taping that may not materialize.

About the show and Stephen Colbert:

Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show from David Letterman on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Prior to joining the CBS family — and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves — Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report” on the Comedy Central cable channel,  which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced ko?l’b??r, according to Wikipedia.
