This is your last chance to see the most incredible collection of golden jewels, carvings, furniture and other artifacts of the legendary King Tut without going to Cairo. The fabulous King Tut exhibit in the Times Square Discovery Center closes forever on Monday, January 17th. These golden wonders won’t be coming back to NYC in your lifetime, perhaps ever.
I’ve been to Egypt twice in the last two years, and probably spent the equivalent of eight hours in separate visits to the Cairo Museum, plus the hundreds of hours I’ve spend over the years in the Egypt collection of the the NYC Metropolitan Museum of Art.. And I still spent nearly two hours savoring the special and spectacular wonders at the King Tut exhibit.
The photo is of a ‘coffret’, a miniature coffin perhaps six inches high which held parts of the king’s remains. The full size golden, jeweled version is in Cairo, but the NYC King Tut exhbit has an almost as fabulous sarcophagus of an Egyptian queen and relative.
Go. And go early. I was there shortly after the exhibit opens at 10 a.m., and walked right in.
By the time I left nearly two hours later, the line to get in was more than one hour long. Get $5 off your ticket with the code TUTSTREET.
The next exhibit at the Discover Times Square Exposition is about Pompeii.
