Japan Week in NYC is a ten-day celebration of Japanese food and culture. This year, it is March 1st to March 11th, kicking off with a cherry blossom festival in Times Square, as giant video screens celebrate the 100th anniversary of Japan’s gift of cherry trees to the U.S. Other events include —
- Grand Central Station— Vanderbilt Hall will be transformed into a mni Japan from Thursday, March 1st to Saturday, March 3rd, showcasing with cooking demonstrations and tastings, performances of traditional Japanese music, and displays of Japanese food and merchandise. On March 1st, performances of Japanese harp will complement cooking demonstrations and tastings by renowned chefs. Japan tourism information services will also be on-hand.
- NY Times Travel Show — From Friday, March 2nd through Sunday, March 4th, a special “Japan Booth” welcomes visitors to explore their dream vacations in Japan at the New York Times Travel Show at the Javits Convention Center.
- Japan Week Restaurant Week — From Wednesday, March 7th to Sunday, March 11th, participating restaurants in the Tri-State area are donating a portion of sales to the Japan Disaster Relief Fund, to help raise money for Japan’s recovery from last year’s devastating earthquake and tsunami.
