Taste more than 50 Israeli wines and learn about the robust Israeli wine industry at a special tasting and symposium next week. You don’t have to be Jewish to enjoy Israeli wines, or the snacks also being served between pours.
The Israeli Wine Symposium and Tasting is at Temple Emanu-El Skirball Center on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 6:30PM, and will help you get your table and tastebuds ready for Rosh Hashanah.
The symposium guide is Adam Montefiore, wine editor of the Jerusalem Post, and a recognized international authority on Israeli wine. He will discuss Israel’s modern wine industry, and h including how the land was turned back from barren to fruitful, and how Israeli wines compete with wines from other countries, including our excellent wineries in New York State, from wineries in the nearby Hudson Valley and Long Island, and in the Finger Lakes upstate.
Judaism has a special relationship with wine. Wine and winemaking is mentioned in the Torah, which describes the land of Israel as being lush with grapevines.
Tickets are $25, for the lecture program and tastings of the 50 Israeli wines featured, and accompanying snacks.
Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Sunday, Oct. 2.
Let me be the first to wish you L’shanah Tovah!
