Harlem Week 2016 really should be called Harlem Weekend, with two full days of FREE events including a children’s festival, vintage car show, education fair, concerts, dance performances, health fair, fashion show and more, at various locations throughout Harlem.
There are four outdoor stages for entertainment, and vendors selling food, arts and crafts, clothing and more.
Here’s the full schedule so you can plan, and let’s hope the weather cooperates for the outdoor events:
Today, August 20, 2016 – “Summer in the City”
NYC “Children’s Festival” – noon to 5pm
For children between ages 5 to 12 years and the adults who love them. Storytelling, tap dancers, step shows, hip hop dancers, theater, poetry and vocalists), arts & crafts, double dutch competitions, face painting, technology, health services, super heroes, dance lessons and sporting events. Repeats again tomorrow.

Harlem Honey & Bears – 11am to 3pm
Senior citizens as well as the entire family, enjoy swimming demonstrations.
- Location: Hansborough Recreation Center – W 135th Street/between Malcolm X Blvd & Fifth Avenue
Harlem Higher Education Fair – noon to 5pm
Highlighting SUNY, CUNY, Community Colleges, Technical & Trade Schools, and showcasing Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Over 50 colleges, universities and public and private institutions of higher learning will provide information on admissions, scholarships and financial aid.

Alvin Ailey Dancer and WBLS DJs – noon to 12:30pm
Hip Hop ballet and African dance class with Ailey instructor Robin Dunn
- Location: HMF Stage 135th St. & St. Nicholas Ave. Stage
New Yorkers are “Dancing in the Street” – 1pm to 3pm
Street fair with music and dancing
- Location: W. 135th St. and Frederick Douglass Blvd.
The Fabulous Fashion Flava Show – 3pm to 4pm
Showcasing fashion from designers of color.

HMF “Uptown Saturday Concert” – 4pm to 6pm

International Vendors Village – 11am to 5pm
Featuring Arts & Crafts, Music, Clothing, Jewelry, Hats, Sculptures, Foods, Job Recruitment, Product Sampling, and Corporate Exhibits

HMF/Imagenation Film Festival Outdoor Film Festival – 7pm

Health testing, education and information for all ages
- Location: Harlem Hospital Mural Pavilion (between 136th Street and 137th & Malcolm X Blvd.Upper Manhattan Small Business Expo & Fair – Noon to 4pm
Indoor and outdoor expos on Business, Finance, Investment, Real Estate. Also, seminars focusing on Small Business Related Issues with top experts focusing on the economic prosperity and revitalization of New York.
