Hairspray Original Broadway Cast Reunites for Theater Fund-Raiser

POSTED BY
Evelyn Kanter

Hairspray original cast in fund-raiser for theatr communityJoin Harvey Fierstein, Marissa Jaret Winokur and other members of the original Broadway cast of Hairsprary in a live virtual performance that is a fund-raiser supporting NYC public high school students and emerging playwrights.

The special event includes a FREE raffle to win a virtual table for ten and a toast with the performers on stage after the show, virtually, of course.

In addition to the gravelly-voiced and multi-talented Fierstein and Winokur, orignal cast members performing include Laura Bell Bundy, Kerry Butler, Jackie Hoffman, Matthew Morrison, Jenn Gambatese, Kamilah Marshall, Corey Reynolds, Judine Somerville, and Shayna Steele.

They join Heather Headley, Joshua Henry, Rob McClure, Nicolette Robinson, Phillipa Soo, Adrienne Warren, Jocelyn Bioh, Raúl Esparza, Judith Light, Norbert Leo Butz, Robert Fairchild, Ingrid Michaelson, Leslie Odom Jr., Isaac Powell, Lauren Ridloff, Kenneth Cole, Julianna Margulies, Piper Perabo, and Thomas Sadoski.

Will Van Dyke serves as musical supervisor.

The MCC Theater’s Miscast20 gala is airing 8pm Sunday, September 13 on its YouTube channel, and will be available through Thursday, Sept. 17.

Funds raised from Miscast20 help MCC Theater produce exciting new work off-Broadway and support its Youth Company and in-school partnerships that serve New York City public high school students, as well as MCC’s literary development work with emerging playwrights.

Miscast20 will also support the Mental Health Coalition (MHC), who will receive 10 percent of funds raised during the broadcast.

MHC is a new initiative focused on destigmatizing mental health experiences that was founded by social activist and fashion designer Kenneth Cole.

Raffle entry and bids can be placed here.

About MCC Theater

Founded in 1986 as Manhattan Class Company,  MCC began as a collective of young actors, writers, and directors determined to steer their own artistic development and redefine the NYC theater scene with the kind of stories they wanted to see on the stage.

That work continues today at the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space at 511 W. 52nd St., where artists, staff and students have the freedom to stir things up, under one roof.
