Global Citizen Festival 2019 is Saturday, Sept.28, in Central Park.
It blends great music with positive social activism, and is part of the annual Climate Week NYC events.
As in past years, the only way to get your FREE tickets is to earn them by completing easy and educational actions.
All the tasks are designed to make us more aware of global poverty, human trafficikng and other social issues – and, more importantly, start doing something about it.
Tasks can be as simple as sending an email to a politician, or taking a re-usable shopping bag to the grocery store instead of taking home yet another throwaway plastic bag.
Global Citizen Festival 2019 themes and issues
Global Citizens are calling on world leaders to make commitments to empower people in extreme poverty. This includes:
- Ensure people don’t suffer needlessly from preventable and treatable diseases.
- Give every child — including those affected by conflict and crisis — access to a quality education.
- Stand in solidarity with women entrepreneurs around the world.
- Make sure all people have access to enough nutritious food and clean drinking water.
- Reduce the amount of single-use plastics that are used.
The theme of the 2018 concert was Be the Citizen, Global Citizen’s year-long campaign to end extreme poverty, which honoring the legacy of Nelson Mandela in the year he would have turned 100.
The theme of the 2017 concert and activism activities was to call on leaders in the USA and around the world to uphold their responsibility to end poverty, tackle climate change, support education for girls worldwide, by 2030.
The mission of Global Citizen 2016 was to end global poverty and human trafficking.
