Time is running out to get your FREE tickets for the annual Smithsonian Museum Day Live! event when more than 1,400 museums in all 50 states offer FREE admission. This year, it’s Saturday, Sept. 24, for the 12th annual Smithsonian Museum Day Live!
Important – you can’t just walk in. Free admission requires a special admission ticket, available now for download.
Your Smithsonian Museum Day Live! ticket will be e-mailed, and you must print it and bring it with you for free entry. Each ticket is good for two people, and does not include special exhibits, parking or showings such as IMAX.
NYCOTC tip: if you are a group of more than two, register with different email addresses for the two-ticket limit. Whether you are part of group or not, go early in the day, since museums have the right to make you wait in favor of paying customers if space reaches capacity.
Participating museums in the New York City metro area in 2014 included these, and we hope they are participating again in 2015.
- Manhattan: Morgan Library and Museum, Museum of American Finance, Museum of Arts and Design, Jewish Museum, and NYC Fire Museum
- Bronx: Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum, Van Cortlandt House
- Staten Island: Historic Richmondtown, Noble Maritime Collection
- Long Island: Cradle of Aviation Museum, Garden City
Also on the list is the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian in Battery Park, which is free every day, not just on Museum Day Live!
New York City residents also can apply for the IDNYC card, which offers FREE admission for one year to many NYC museums. There are additional benefits, too, including using the IDNYC card as a library card.
