The Food Bank For New York City is offering FREE tax preparation help for low-income New Yorkers. Last year, the non-profit service agency helped NYC residents get $65 million in refunds and credits, and credentialed tax experts are standing by to help again in 2012. You qualify for free tax help if you earned $18,000 or less without dependents, $50,000 or less with dependents in 2011, or are self-employed as a taxi driver or childcare worker. There are tax help locations in all five boroughs. Click here for the Food Bank of New York City website list of the closest one to where you live or work, and also the documents you need to bring with you. You can also use the same website link to find out about applying for food stamps and other programs.
