Reminder that Macaron Day NYC 2013 is tomorrow, Wednesday March 20, when top French pastry shops give away FREE samples of these delicious almond-flavored treats. It’s hard to describe a macaron — it’s a bite-sized sandwich of two halves of a mirengue egg-white shell filled with creamy ganache, in just about any color and flavor a skilled pastry chef can dream up. They are addictive.
Macaron Day NYC is the brainchild of legendary NYC French pastry chef Francois Payard, and it coincides with a similar macaron celebration day in Paris. Participating French pastry shops in NYC will provide one free macaron per person, while supplies last. Click here for the entire list of participating patisseries, which inlcude the three Francois Payard Bakery locations, Bouloud Bakery in the Time Warner Center and Michael Allen International Confectioner in Brooklyn. It’s hard to have just one macaron, and if you want more, buy a bunch — the bakeries are donating a portion of the day’s sales to City Harvest, which helps feed NYC’s poor and homeless, including those left homeless by superstorm Hurricane Sandy. So you are eating for a good cause.
