Free exhibit of BMW supercar, futuristic electric cars in Midtown

POSTED BY
Evelyn Kanter

BMW Born Electric tour, BMW i8 Concept sedan, BMW electric carsSee the super hot BMW i8 Spyder Concept electric super car and other futuristic EV models FREE at the BMW  Born Electric display opening today at 6 p.m.  In addition to the i8 Spyder Concept, the i3 Concept city car is on display, along with interactive displays and demonstrations of the technologies challenges that will shape how we move around the cities of the world in the future.  This is the world debut of the two vehicles, which will be seen next at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month.

Born Electric opens to the public at 6 pm tonight, at 1095 Sixth Avenue, corner of 42nd Street, across from Bryant Park.  Wednesday through Sunday it’s open 10 am to 10 pm.  Wednesday to Tuesday, November 13th from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, November 14th through Sunday, November 18th from 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

BMW has launched a new subsidiary — the name is the letter ‘i’ — to produce electric cars. NYC is just one of seven cities worlwide for the BMW Born Electric Tour.  We’re in good company with Dusseldorf, London, Paris and Shanghai.

The BMW i3 and i8 — the gull wing sedan pictured here — will become first purpose-built electric and hybrid-electric production vehicles to be made primarily from lightweight and expensive carbon when they become available. The i3 is set for production next year, and the i8 in 2014.

BTW — I’m attending the 2012 LA Auto Show and will be reporting for ecoXplorer and national outlets including Freewheeling, my national column syndicated by Motor Matters.  syndicated columnin 2013 and 2014 respectively.
