Sofitel New York hotel has turned its lobby into an art gallery, with a FREE photo exhibit of celebrities and celebrity artists including Pablo Picasso, Brigitte Bardot and Salvador Dali.
Sofitel is a French hotel company, so it’s fitting this exhibit of 30 historic photos was curated by Paris Match, the French version of Life or People magazines, and includes photos taken by Olivier Widmaier Picasso, grandson of Pablo. There are both color and black/white images in the display.
I attended the press preview opening the other day and was especially captivated by photos of an impossibly young Bardot, Dali painting in a zoo blissfully ignoring a hippo, and Jeff Koons preparing one of the famous BMW Art Cars.
Sofitel is at 45 West 44th St., between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. If the photos make you hungry for more, the International Center of Photography museum is right up the block.
The exhibit is on display through August, after which it moves to other Sofitel hotels in the USA and Canada:
Sofitel New York – June 2014 to August 2014
Sofitel Washington DC Lafayette Square – August 2014 to October 2014
Sofitel Chicago Water Tower – November 2014 to January 2015
Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile – February 2015 to March 2015
Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills – April 2015 to early June 2015
