Get aboard US Navy and US Coast Guard ships visiting New York City this week, for the annual Fleet Week New York celebration of Memorial Day week and sea services. Seven ships are open for FREE touring in Manhattan and Staten Island, starting tomorrow.
Ships are open 8am to 5pm daily, through Monday. The US Navy advises that lines may be capped as early as 3pm so the last people in line can complete their tours.
USS San Antonio (LPD 17) and USCG cutter Spencer (WMEC 905) will be moored at Pier 92 (52nd St.) on the Hudson River.
The USNA Yard Patrol Boats will be moored at Pier 86 (46th St.), next to the Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum, which also has FREE exhibits and displays along the pier.
USS Barry (DDG 52), USS Stout (DDG 55) and USCG cutter Sturgeon Bay (WTGB 109) will be moored at The USS Sullivans Pier at the Staten Island Homeport.
Note that Spencer and the Yard Patrol boats are scheduled to depart on Saturday, not Monday.
Visitors should wear closed shoes, not open-toed sandals, and definitely not flip-flops, and expect that your bags will receive security screening. Visitors over age 18 must show a valid state or federal photo I.D. prior to boarding.
Note also that while infants and toddlers are welcome to board and tour the ships, strollers and carriages are permitted on the piers but not allowed on the ships. And while the pier area exhibits and restrooms are handicap accessible, the ships are not.
