As we tell you often here on NYC on the Cheap, cheap is good, free is better, and there always are lots of both in NYC. Here are the best FREE things to see and do this week, May 21-25, in the greatest city on the planet.
Celebrate the 135th anniversary of the opening of Brooklyn Bridge at Brooklyn Bridge Park with a screening of Roebling’s Bridge. The film’s producer Mark Friedman hosts Fred Caesar, curator of the Saxonburg Museum, author and historian Clifford Zink, and Kriss Roebling, the great great grandson of Washington Roebling, for a discussion, screening and Q&A.

The fleet is in! The 30th annual NYC Fleet Week 2018, celebrates all the Sea Services, is May 23-29, with FREE Navy Band concerts and drill performances, demonstrations of the latest battle and rescue technology, and the chance to tour ships on active duty.

Meet 200 women who will change the way you see the world, at a special FREE interactive photo and video exhibit. The exhibit highlights diversity and equality through the stories of 200 women from around the world, who were asked five fundamental questions on the theme ‘what is most important to you’. The 200 Women exhibition is sponsored by BMW, and is at Pen + Brush, 29 East 22nd St., through June 30, then travels to Munich, Germany, BMW’s headquarters city.
People have said NYC is for the birds. You can see hundreds of them – birds, that is – on the FREE birding tours twice a week in Bryant Park, through the end of May.

SEA (Singular Extreme Actions) is a thrilling show in which daredevil performers interact with mechanics and apparatus specifically created for the show. Human bodies careen through, around, and above invented hardware in a FREE performance that dance, athletics, boxing, rodeo, circus, and stunt work. There are performances at Noon and 6pm Thursday through Saturday at Brookfield Place.
