NYCONTHECHEAP Fleet Week The 30th annual NYC Fleet Week 2018, which celebrates all the Sea Services, ends Tuesday, so this is your last chance for FREE Navy Band concerts and drill performances, demonstrations of the latest battle and rescue technology, and the chance to tour ships on active duty.

NYC on the CheapManhattanhenge 2018 – There are four times a year when the sun sets directly in the middle of NYC’s east-west streets, lighting up both sides of the street.  It happens this week, and again in July.  Grab your camera and go.

LIC Henge – Join the Hunters Point Parks Conservancy on May 28 for the unique view of the sun through the street grid, with the added bonus of the reflection off the East River.  The special event includes a performance by Encore, a touring show choir from Do Re Mi School of the Arts in Scottsdale, AZ, beginning  begin at 7:00 p.m.

NYC free exhibitsMeet 200 women who will change the way you see the world, at a special FREE interactive photo and video exhibit. The  exhibit highlights diversity and equality through the stories of 200 women from around the world, who were asked five fundamental questions on the theme ‘what is most important to you’.

  • The 200 Women exhibition is sponsored by BMW, and is at Pen + Brush, 29 East 22nd St., through June 30, then travels to Munich, Germany, BMW’s headquarters city.

nyc parksPeople have said NYC is for the birds.  You can see hundreds of them – birds, that is – on the FREE birding tours ending this week for the Spring birding tours in Bryant Park, or you’ll have to wait until fall for the Autumn tours.  See the schedule here.

 

free yoga classes in nycBryant Park’s yoga classes, believed to be the largest regularly scheduled FREE outdoor series of its kind in the world, are now underway. The twice-weekly classes are Tuesday mornings on the Upper Terrace 10 AM-11 AM, and Thursday evenings on the Lawn 6 PM-7PM.  Bring your own mat.

  • Sign up now for FREE yoga and dance classes during Dance Week NYC, June 4-12.

NYC free concertsJazz Tribute to Leonard Bernstein – As part of Leonard Bernstein at 100, the global celebration of one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, attend this FREE concert at Bloomingdale School of Music, on Friday, June 1st at 7:00 pm. This free concert led by BSM faculty member pianist Zach Lapidus with guest artists bassist Peter Brendler and drummer Aaron Seeber.

  • BSM is at 323 West 108th Street. Seating is limited, and since there are no reservations, get there early.
