History is being made in NYC again today, when the world’s most famous queens gather in the harbor. The Cunard cruise ships Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria, are in New York City at the same time today. And it’s a reason to celebrate, since the three queens have not been in NYC together for more than 100 years — and that was earlier versions of the ships with the same names.
A Grucci fireworks display around the Statue of Liberty at 6:45 celebrates the event. The Queen Mary 2 leaves her home port at Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, and the QE2 and Qeen Victoria leave Pier 90 at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal in time to rendezvous in front of the Statue of Liberty by 6:30. Best viewing spots are:
- Manhattan — Battery Park and the Battery Park Esplanade, and Robert F. Wagner Jr. Park,
- Brooklyn — Shore Parkway Promenade, especially the Pier at 69th St.
