Where were you when the ground shook from Virginia to Maine, including New York City, just after lunch on Tuesday, August 23, 2011?
I was at Citifield, attending a news conference for the launch of the redesigned 2012 Toyota Camry. We had just finished a live simulcast with Toyota president Akio Toyoda, speaking to us from the Camry factory in Georgetown, Kentucky, when the marble floor of the Jackie Robinson Rotunda began to move. Back and forth, and back and forth again a few more times. The escalators alongside me shifted ever so slightly, but not the steel girders holding the place together. First, we were told to stay where we were. A moment later, we were told to leave the building. And ten minutes later, we got the all clear. In the meantime, I had phoned the radio station where I used to be a reporter — WBCS Newsradio 88 — and did a live ‘phoner’ with anchor Wayne Cabot.
