Vroom! Drive real racecars at 125 mph or more on a real racetrack. It’s a day you’ll never forget. It’s the New Jersey Motorsports Park Racing School, with a choice of one-day or two-day programs. You’ll be driving VW Jetta TDI clean diesel cars — the very same ones which have been competing in the VW TDI cup on the SCCA circuit. These are 2.0 liter, 170 horsepower Jettas equipped with rollbars, six-point harnesses, and six speed transmissions. Cost of the program is $995 for one day, $1,890 for two, and includes one passenger. The price also includes driving instruction from pro racers, to teach you how to approach a turn at warp speed without spinning out, and how to recover from one if you do. I’ve done racetrack programs before, including one at NJMP, and I always learn something from the pros that make me a safer driver at normal speeds on streets and highways. It’s not just about going fast on the straightaway, although that is really and truly a bunch of fun. The NJMP Racing School is October 26th and 27th, and spots fill up fast, so don’t delay. Click here to register. The track is in southern New Jersey, about half-way between NYC and Philadelphia. This is a great pre-holiday gift for somebody special in your life — including yourself. As I said — vroom!
The street version of the VW Jetta TDI clean diesel also just happens to be fuel-efficient green car — it won the Green Car of the Year Award a couple of years back at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Here are two articles I’ve written about the Jetta for the other half of my life that is a longtime auto and travel journalist —
- Best cars under $20,000: Volkswagen Jetta
- VW Jetta named Green Car of the Year
