Age has its privileges, and a popular one is shopping discounts. Seniors 65+ get serious discounts the first week of the month at Walgreens and Duane Reade, and also at Rite-Aid. But you can’t just show up and point to your smile lines or grey hair. The discounts are only for members of the chains’ loyalty programs.
Walgreens offers 20% off in-store and 10% off online on the first Tuesday of the month for members Balance Rewards card, which is free to join.
In NYC, the seniors discount deal is also good at Duane Reade stores, which Walgreens now owns. The same loyalty card works for both chains, in NYC for Duane Reade or Walgreens stores, and nationwide for Walgreens.
Rite-Aid requires a specific loyalty card for customers 65+ to get discounts on what it calls Wellness Wednesdays. The Wellness 65+ program also is free to join, and offers a 20% discount on purchases on the first Wednesday of the month, including on special monthly featured items.
Unlike the Walgreens and Duane Reade program, Rite-Aid does NOT offer the Wellness 65+ discounts in New York City, New York State or New Jersey.
But if you live in or visit places where the Rite-Aid senior discount card is valid, it’s worth joining.
