Brooklyn’s world-famous Coney Island opens officially for the 2016 season on Saturday, March 26th, with FREE rides on Deno’s Wonder Wheel and other opening day special events. Here’s what’s on the official opening day schedule, which was postponed from last Sunday because of the spring snowstorm that was predicted but did not materialize:
Luna Park Unlimited Rides: Save $10 on a four-hour unlimited ride wristband, good on opening day or any other day of the 2016 season. Wristband is for more than 20 of Luna Park’s main rides including the Wild River Log Flume and the Steeplechase Roller Coaster. Get discount tickets here.
Historic walking tours: Based on Coney Island History Project Director Charles Denson’s award-winning book “Coney Island: Lost and Found,” and interviews from CIHP’s Oral History Archive. Visit the online reservation website for tour schedule and to purchase advance tickets online, or e-mail events@coneyislandhistory.org.
Magic At Coney: This is a family-friendly magical variety show features an array of magicians including illusionists, escape artists, mentalists and close-up magicians. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 online, or at the door. Get advance tickets here and avoid the line.
Deno’s Wonder Wheel: The 31st Annual “Blessing of the Rides” is followed by FREE rides for 300 kids from the local Salt N Sea Mission, and FREE rides to the first 96 people on line.
Of course, when you get hungry, the world-famous Nathan’s Famous is the top spot for hot dogs, fries, clams and more, all flavored with the breeze from the Atlantic Ocean.
Coney Island and its next-door neighbor Brighton Beach have been nominated for the title of Best Urban Beach by the readers of USA Today.
And best of all, Coney Island is easy to get to via the NYC Subway. Where else but New York City can you get to an amusement park and the beach by subway!
