POSTED BY

Chihuly exhibit Denver Botanical Garden

NYC gets another blockbuster art exhibition with the opening of CHIHULY at The New York Botanical Garden on April 22nd. Nearly two dozen amazing glass installations by world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly will be on view at NYBG, through the end of October 2017. Many of the pieces were designed specifically for NYBG.

This spectacular outdoor exhibit marks Chihuly’s first such show in New York City in a decade, and includes drawings and early works that reveal the evolution and development of of his art and glass making process.

The photo above is from the visit by NYC ON THE CHEAP editor Evelyn Kanter to the Chihuly exhibit at the Denver Botanical Garden a couple of years ago. The boat filled with glass balls is also at the NY Botanical Garden exhibit.

There also are permanent Chihuly installations at the Norton Simon Museum in Palm Beach and the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

Chihuly at NY Botanical GardenThe Chihuly exhibit at BBG includes a  monumental new work inspired by his storied 1975 Artpark installation, around the Native Plant Garden and the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory Courtyard’s Tropical Pool, reflecting the interplay and movement of color and light.

Special weekend celebrations, films, poetry, and fun-filled art programs for kids offer colorful and imaginative tributes to nature.

On CHIHULY Nights, the exhibition is infused with a magical energy as the artworks are spectacularly illuminated amid NYBG’s sweeping vistas and magnificent Conservatory.  Chihuly Nights are on Saturday nights, and advance reservations are required.

One of the greatest botanical gardens in the world, NYBG is a 250-acre sanctuary in the Bronx, just 20 minutes from midtown Manhattan, easily accessible by public transport.
