Fans of overstuffed corned beef and pastrami sandwiches are still cying in their Cel-Ray tonic over the closure of the famed Carnegie Deli in 2016. It’s returning – but just for one week, and everything on the menu will be $1, or less.
Yes, you read that correctly. $1 or less. Sandwiches are 99 cents, potato knishes are 75 cents, desserts including cheesecake and Black and White cookies are 50 cents. Dr. Brown’s sodas also are 50 cents.
And there’s 1950s decor, including a jukebox loaded with good old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll.

Let’s call the December 1-8 return of the Carnegie Deli a Hanukkah miracle, because those also are the dates of Hanukkah. Okay, so it’s December 2-9. So stop kvethcing and get on line, or make a reservation already.
The return of the Carnegie Deli is a promotional stunt by Amazon Prime to promote season two of its popular and award-winning show Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a period piece about a Jewish female comedian in 1950s New York City.
You can expect long lines. Or, you can make a reservation and hope for the best.
The Carnegie Deli will be at 201 Lafayette St. in Nolita, open from 11:30am to 8pm daily.
See the menu and make a reservation here.
And you will be noshing for a cause, since all proceeds benefit the Lower East Side Girls Club, which has been serving at-risk children since the days of Mrs. Maisel.
A pop-up deli. What a concept! Testing the waters or really a one-off?
As the posting says, it’s a one-week promotion by Amazon Prime to promote the second season of the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, whose lead character loves Carnegie Sandwiches.
It would be wonderful if this becomes an annual “thing”, especially since purchase prices are being donated to a local charity for at risk young women.
