This has got to be serious chutzpah — the Broadway show ticket website Broadway.com is charging fees up to $143 per ticket for the mega-hit show Book of Mormon.
Want a t$155 mezzanine or orchestra ticket? That will be $201.50, including a $46.50 “service” fee. Or, you can buy a “premium” ticket for $620 that includes the $143 service fee. This makes NYC on the Cheap angry, because Telecharge sells tickets to the hit show at face value, with no service fee.
That means you get a $155 ticket for $155, not $201.50. Telecharge is part of the Schubert Organization, and Book of Mormon is playing at a Schubert Theater, the Eugene O’Neill, which is how Telecharge avoids charging hefty fees. We’re not schilling for Telecharge.
We just object to paying an extra 25% fee on something when I don’t have to. Of course, if you want to go tonight, you’ll have to pay a hefty service fee to get into a sold-out performance.
Otherwise, plan ahead and use Telecharge, Ticketnetwork, TheaterMania or other sellers with minimal service fees. Buyer beware — when you see a humongous service fee that is 25% of the final purchase price, run the other way.
