Blockbuster is closing one of its largest remaining stores in New York City, another victim of rising rents and competition from Redbox, Netflix and Time Warner Movies on Demand. DVDs of movies and TV series are priced from 99 cents, and currrent Blue Ray movies from $7.99. The store is at Broadway and 94th Street. I saw entire seasons of Mad Men, Arrested Development, Gray’s Anatomy and Lost for just 99 cents a season. The the original Tom Cruise Mission Impossible was 99 cents, but the more recent MI3 version was $4.99. I’m saying was, not is, because when the stock of a particular movie or TV show is gone, it’s gone. There’s also a supply of film friendly candy, including boxes of Raisenets and bags of caramel popcorn, at 30% off. The blockbuster store closing sale at Blockbuster is through the end of March.
