The New York Public Library branch in Harlem has a FREE exhibit of photos of the first year in office of President Obama. The photos are by Pete Souza, chief official White House photographer, ranging from candid shots of a father with his young children to the high drama aboard Air Force One.
Souza uses his own voice, not official, administrative descriptions, to give each image a lively, fresh and personal connection with the first African-American US president, his family and his duties. The exhibit at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture opens on Friday, February 5th, and runs through mid-April.
The Schomburg Center is at 525 Malcolm X Blvd., at 135th St., and is open Monday to Saturday. Hours vary.
