New York City has the biggest and best St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the world, with more than 200,000 marchers, including marching bands, and more than two million spectators lining the route.
As always, the 2014 St. Patrick’s Day parade marches up Fifth Avenue from 44th Street, past the reviewing stand at St Patrick’s Cathedral at 50th Street, and all the way up past the American Irish Historical Society at 83rd and the Metropolitan Museum of Art at 83rd Street to 86th Street. Starting time is 11 a.m., Monday, March 17th, and it will take until 4:30 or 5 p.m. for the last marcher to reach 86th St.
The best viewing spots are north of 59th Street, especially the steps of the Met Museum. Of course, get there early for the best viewing spot. And remember — public drinking of alcohol is strictly forbidden during the parade. Anyone found drinking in public can be ticketed and arrested, and police will confiscate all alcoholic beverages.
