The 39th Annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks spectacular on the East River offers two miles of FREE viewing spots in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, including along portions of the FDR Drive, which will be closed for the occasion, and the Brooklyn Heights Promenade.
There will be five fireworks barges in 2015. Four of them are between 57th Street and 23rd Street, and a fifth is at the South Street Seaport, just south of the Brooklyn Bridge.
Take public transportation. Do not drive because of all the street and highway closings.

Best viewing spots in Manhattan:
FDR Drive between 57th Street, just south of the 59th Street/Queensborough Bridge and 23rd St.
The elevated portion of the FDR Drive around Houston Street
Brooklyn Bridge entry from St. James Place (Pearl Street) & Wagner Place (viewing both north & south of the Brooklyn Bridge).
Broad Street and/or Old Slip at Water Street (viewing between Heliport & south side of Brooklyn Bridge
Best viewing spots in Brooklyn:
Brooklyn Bridge Park (piers 1-6): enter on Old Fulton & Furman Street, Joralemon Street & Furman Street or Atlantic Avenue & Furman Street.
- Local streets will close at 4pm.
- Restrooms at the 99 Plymouth Street Building will close at 6pm.
- Barbecues on Picnic Peninsula will be closed.
- The Pop-Up Pool, Jane’s Carousel and all playgrounds will close at 4pm.
- Pier 2 sports courts and roller rink, Pier 5 Sports Fields and Pier 6 Volleyball Courts will close at 4pm.
- East River Ferry service and B63 Bus service west of Hicks Street stop running at 4pm
Brooklyn Bridge Promenade: enter on Columbia Heights & Pineapple Street, Montague Street & Pierrepont Street or Pierrepont Street & Remsen Street.
Best viewing spots in Queens:
Center Blvd from 48th Avenue to 49th Avenue
The outdoor, waterside Beer Garden at LIC Flea is open noon to 10:30PM on July 4th. A large part of the waterfront will be closed off to the public for the Macy’s show so get there early to snag a spot, and hang out until after the fireworks and the crowds departing to the subways. Take the 7 to Vernon/Jackson, E/M/G to Court Square, East River Ferry to LIC (operating until 5:30pm on July 4)
As always, the annual fireworks extravaganza features more than 40,000 fireworks synchronized to a 25-minute music score of old and new favorites, and live performances by Dierks Bentley, Kelly Clarkson, Flor Rida, Meghan Trainor and Gloria Estefan. The show is hosted by Willie Geist and Tamron Hall..
