Celebrate the cool water that surrounds New York City on Saturday, July 16th, at FREE family-friendly events throughout the city celebrating the City of Water Day. Tour a tugboat, row a boat, identify fish and other wildlife, learn to kayak and more, all from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, so let’s hope for shine.
There are dozens of events from Inwood at the northern tip of Manhattan to Governors Island, off the southern tip, along the Brooklyn shoreline to Jamaica Bay, and also in Maxwell Place Park, Hoboken.
New this year is the It’s Your Tern Festival on Governor’s Island, sponsored by New York Audobon.
Sign up today for the FREE boat tours. There is a $5 refundable deposit. If you take the tour, you get your $5 back. If you are a no-show, you lose your $5, but it’s to a good cause – it will help support the programs of the Waterfront Alliance to protect our precious NYC waterways.
Go kayaking at Brooklyn Bridge Park, or watch a puppet show designed to teach kids about conservation. In Manhattan, learn how to fish in Hudson River Park, or tour the 1907 tugboat Pegasus. In Queens, go kayaking in Jamaica Bay. Watch a race of cardboard kayaks on Governors Island. And lots more.
Check the City of Water Day website to find an activity or neighborhood that suits you. While most activities are FREE, there are ticketed events including Hudson River sailing trips.
