The Super Nova restaurant, bar and outdoor terrace has just opened at the Novotel hotel in Times Square, with a spectacular view of the Great White Way. It’s not exactly a rooftop, since it’s on the sixth floor, but it feels like a rooftop, with large comfortable seating and even a telescope to get a close-up look of the action below.
Super Nova used to be called Cafe Nicole, and the terrace was called Skydeck, before a just-completed multi-million dollar renovation of the entire hotel, including the restaurant and outdoor terrace.
There’s no real happy hour, just drinks at hotel prices, which means around $8 to $12 for wine and cocktails. There’s also a bar menu, with a bargain priced half-pound Black Angus beefsteak burger with fixings, and a decent size portion of ribs for $10. Which means that unless you are super hungry, you could have dinner and drink for $20 at Super Nova.
Super Nova is the hotel’s main restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Since Novotel is a French hotel chain, most guests are from France – the concierge I chatted with on a recent visit is from Paris – so there’s a very Continental vibe, rather than the Wall Street vibe at other NYC rooftop bars.
Novotel is at 226 West 52nd St, at Seventh Avenue. A bientot!
