Celebrate dance with FREE performances in Lower Manhattan next week. The 2016 Battery Dance Festival features dance troupes including from India, Germany, Turkey, and the USA, performing outdoors.
This is the 35th Anniversary of the Battery Dance Festival, which used to be known as the Downtown Dance Festival. Performances are 6:30pm to 8:30pm daily in Robert F. Wagner Jr. Park, just west of Battery Park, and each night features a mix of traditional and modern dance by the international troupes.
The festival opens with a memorial to Adel Euro, the aspiring dancer from Iraq who had been training via Skype with Battery Dance, who was killed last month in a Baghdad bombing, along with 300 other victims of that ongoing madness.
Click here for the daily dance performance schedule outdoors, in the park, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Sunday through Friday, August 19th. Get there early for a prime spot.
There also are dance workshops for all dance levels, also FREE.
