Some things are just too much fun to happen just once. So here are the the five best FREE events you can enjoy any time in September without spending big bucks. Have fun, be cheap, and enjoy NYC on the cheap.
9th Annual Governors Island Art Fair – Explore the old military barracks, filled with inventive artwork. FREE, every weekend in September. And stay to explore The Hills, the newest section of Governors Island that just opened.
- Also on Governors Island through Sept. 25th, try a special geocaching program to find hidden treasures, and learn about the fascinating 200-year history of the island en route.
Stargazing at the Highline – Every Tuesday at sunset, through mid-October, get close to the stars, thanks to the high-powered telescopes supplied by the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York. They’ll help you find everything from Venus to Orion’s Belt.
Luna Park, Coney Island – The family-friendly “spooktacular” Halloween Harvest begins Sept. 24th, and is every weekend through Oct. 31st. There’s face-painting, trick-or-treating, spooky karaoke, and a pumpkin patch, too. The events are FREE, the rides are not.
- Get a wristband for four hours of unlimited rides for $24, that’s $10 off the regular price, for weekday visits and rides.
FREE admission to NYC museums – Why pay $25 admission when you can visit for FREE? Just about every museum in NYC has a free day or a free evening.
Take a walk – Join a FREE guided tour of the Flatiron district, and learn about the fascinating history of the area. The Flation/23rd St. Partnership sponsors free 90 minute walking tours year-round on Sunday mornings.
