The world’s largest outdoor art exhibition, Art Everywhere, opens Monday, August 4th in the center of the world, Times Square. Nearly 60 artworks from top American museums will be displayed on digital billboards, subway platforms, trains, buses and bus shelters.
The artworks also are being displayed nationwide in as many as 50,000 public spaces throughout August 2014, which is why it’s called Art Everywhere. And it’s FREE.
It’s a collaboration of five major museums: New York City’s Whitney Museum of American Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, and the Outdoor Advertising Association of America.
Visitors to all five museums had the opportunity recently to vote for their favorite works, which are being shown in monthlong rotation, beginning Monday, August 4th.
Artworks from the Whitney include Georgia O’Keefe, Edward Hopper, Jasper Johns and Thomas Hart Benton.
What a great idea! An art museum in the middle of Times Square.
