Anchors Away for NYC Fleet Week 2016

Anchors away! NYC Fleet Week 2016 returns with more than 4,500 US Navy sailors, Marines and Coast Guard men and women, nearly one dozen ships to tour, and dozens of band concerts and other events.

The 28th annual NYC Fleet Week, which celebrates all the Sea Services, begins on Wednesday, May 25th with the traditional Parade of Ships on the Hudson River and continues through Tuesday, May 31.

This year also includes the participation of our wonderful neighbors to the north, with three Royal Canadian Navy ships.

Five US Navy (USNA) ships and Yard Patrol boats (YPs) are participating, along with four US Naval Academy ships and two US Coast Guard (USCGC) cutters.

Ship tours will be conducted daily throughout the week in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island. All ships will be open for tours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the exception of the Intrepid Pier, which opens at 10 a.m.  Note that lines may be capped at 3 p.m. to allow guests to finish their tours.

• *Please note due to cruise ship operations there will be no public tours on Pier 88S on Sunday, May 29.

• • USS Farragut (DDG 99), an Arleigh Burke- lass guided missile destroyer from Mayport, Florida

USS The Sullivan’s Homeport Pier, Staten Island

• USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43), a Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship  from Mayport, Florida
• USS Shamal (PC 13), a Cyclone-class patrol (coastal) ship from Mayport, Florida

• HMCS Athabaskan (D 282), an Iroquois-class destroyer, from Canadian Forces Base Halifax
• HMCS Kingston (MM 700), a Kingston-class coastal defense vessel, from Canadian Forces Base Halifax
• HMCS Moncton (MM 708) a Kingston-class coastal defense vessel, , from Canadian Forces Base Halifax

Now in its 28th year, Fleet Week New York (FWNY), is the city’s time-honored celebration of the sea services. It is an unparalleled annual opportunity for New Yorkers, NYC visitors and residents of the Tri-State area, to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as experience firsthand the latest capabilities of today’s maritime services.

The weeklong Fleet Week celebration has been held nearly every year since 1984
