Here are additional Fourth of July events in NYC and nearby New Jersey:
Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest –
What’s more of an American celebration than overeating? Overeating hot dogs. The world’s best-known competitive snack-down, Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, is back at Coney Island. Thousands gather to watch as the most talented gluttons prove just how many of America’s finest delicacy they can swallow (and keep down) in 10 minutes. The current record to break? 72 weiners.
Fourth of July Beach Party at Steeplechase Park –
Live music, booze, food, fireworks and a beach view—you can’t ask for much more than that on Independence Day. Last year’s party began at 9am and went until midnight, so assume you’re in for a full day of partying, unless you need to leave for a quick drunken ride on the Cyclone (you will definitely be tempted).
Coney Island Fireworks –
The fireworks display is at 9:30pm.
- Best viewing location: The Steeplechase Plaza and the Coney Island Boardwalk.
July 4th Party at LIC Flea –
This open-air bazaar in Queens normally hawks its wide array of retro wares and antiques as well as finger-licking–delicious eats on the weekend, but in honor of Independence Day, the celebration starts at 2pm on July 4th with food, drink, shopping and the Beer & Wine Garden all day and night! Visit before, during and after the fireworks. Entrance is FREE!
- Come on back Sat July 7th and Sun July 8th for preview of the wine + sweets fest, 11AM-6PM.
- LIC Flea & Food is located at 5-25 46th Avenue in Long Island City.
A full day of truly American festivities includes Snoop Dogg as the headline performer, at this outdoor celebration on the Hudson River waterfront, with great views of Ellis Island, the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline. Starting at 1pm, the full day of programming includes carnival rides, food trucks, a South House beer garden and live music.
- Noon to 10pm, Exchange Place, Jersey City
