New this year, fireworks will be set off from the Brooklyn Bridge and from barges between Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport and South Ferry.
Macy’s launched fireworks from the Brooklyn Bridge once before, in 2014.
Last year the fireworks barges were between 23rd and 42nd Streets, and there were seven of them.
This year there are four barges, between the South Street Seaport and South Ferry, plus fireworks on the Brooklyn Bridge itself.

“We are excited to once again work with our partners in the City of New York to make the iconic Brooklyn Bridge the star of our show.
With a barrage of stunning shells and effects launching from its grand span and towers, along with tens of thousands more effects coloring the night from barges on the lower East River, this year’s display promises to be a spectacle to remember,.” event producer Susan Tercero said in a press release.
This year’s presentation will add three times more pyrotechnic firepower as Macy’s creative team expands the design to include more dazzling and intricate effects firing from locations spanning the entire bridge.
The annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular is expected to be seen live by more than 3 million spectators lining both sides of the East River in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan, and another 10 million TV viewers nationwide.

Once again this year, the fireworks are timed to the score of patriotic songs played by the West Point Band and Glee Club, and will highlight new interpretations of patriotic classics like Stars & Stripes Forever and The Star Spangled Banner, as well as several American musical standards.
The 25-minute show will begin at around 9:25 p.m.
Spectators lining the shores of the East River will also enjoy an NYPD helicopter flyover and an FDNY water boat show prior to the start of the display.
Best viewing spots in Manhattan are between the Brooklyn Bridge and Wall Street, and in Brooklyn along the Brooklyn Heights Esplanade.
The Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular was launched in 1976 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the USA, and has been held every year since, getting bigger and better with each year.
The fireworks were moved to the Hudson River in 2009, but returned to the East River in 2015.
Macy’s has used Hunters Point South Park as a staging area for the showcase and a private viewing in past years, and in 2018 again, it is being closed off to the public that day. Neighboring Gantry Plaza State Park will be open, as in past years.
