See The Lion King, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park With George and other beloved hit shows FREE at this special exhibit of Broadway show posters, in celebration of the 72d Annual Tony Awards on June 3rd.
Three dozen Broadway show posters – all of them either nominated for Tony awards or Tony award winners – are showcased in the lobby of the Sofitel New York hotel in the theater district, in a section being called the Fraver Art Gallery.
The 36 posters are all by theater poster legend Frank “Fraver” Verlizzo, culled from more than 300 such works he has created over the years.
Each displayed Broadway show poster is accompanied by anecdotes from the artist.
The Broadway show poster exhibit includes:
The Lion King, 1998’s Best Musical, still playing to sell-out crowds, which also took home wins for Best Costume Design, Best Choreography and Best Lighting Design, as well as nominations in five other categories.
Sunday in the Park with George, which was recognized for Best Scenic Design and Best Lighting in 1984, in addition to being nominated in nine other categories that year.
Sweeney Todd, winner in eight categories at the 33rd Annual Tony Awards in 1979, including Best Musical, Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical.
The Sofitel New York is at 45 West 44th St., in the heart of the Theater District, and the official hotel partner for the 2018 Tony Awards.
The posters will be on display through June 30.
The Fraver Art Gallery opens just weeks before the launch of his book, Fraver by Design, a celebration of Fraver’s award-winning artwork spanning five decades in the industry.
Among 250 of his theater poster designs, the monograph collection will feature an additional 40 unpublished, never-before-seen poster sketches for some of Broadway’s favorite shows.
Anecdotes from Fraver’s career will also be found in the book, along with commentary from 22 theater glitterati, including Bernadette Peters, Dean Pitchford, Ted Chapin, Judy Kaye, Liz Callaway and Jack Viertel.
The 72nd Annual Tony Awards, presented by The Broadway League and the American Theater Wing, will air live from Radio City Music Hall on CBS on Sunday, June 10.

Headline is VERY misleading. You left out the word POSTERS! You can see the posters of these shows for FREE not the actual shows. This is almost Clickbait.

The word POSTERS is clearly in both of the first two sentences below the headline that offends you.
In 5,000+ postings over 5+ years, this is the first time we have been accused of allegedly misleading our audience.
