Since you probably are finding old financial documents now as you work on your 2017 tax statements, it’s better to shred them than toss them.
According to the IRS, tax returns and all supporting documents including bank statements should be retained for a minimum of three years, then shredded.
Gather them up and bring them to an Office Depot or OfficeMax location to be shredded into a secure Iron Mountain lock-box.
You can bring in up to five pounds of documents at a time to shred free of charge through April 28, 2018.
This coupon is required – either download it and print it out, or show the online coupon to a retail store associate via your mobile device.
Although you must show the coupon for the free shredding, there apparently is no limit on how many coupons you can download, for a virtually unlimited amount of free shredding.
