We’re all watching our budgets this holiday season. Here’s a NYC insider’s guide to some of the best things the best city in the world has to offer for just $1. Food, fun, games, even museum admission, for just one buck, so you can enjoy NYC on the cheap.
Pizza – grab a slice for just 99 cents at one of these 99 cent pizza joints, most of them open until midnight.
Books – get an airplane read, rainy or snowy day read, or getaway beach vacation read for just $1 at sale racks outside the Strand Bookstore. Inside, the books cost more, but still discounted.
Pickles – the golden oldie days of a pickle for a nickel are gone, but a fat, juicy pickle is a buck or less at The Pickle Guys on the Lower East Side, or from their booth at one of NYC’s many street fairs. Make mine a full sour, and pucker up, baby.
- SEE the NYCOTC list of best Jewish delis in NYC, because nothing goes with a pickle like an overstuffed corned beef or pastrami on rye.
Carousel – get a ride for $1 on the Riverbank State Park carousel. The view of the Hudson River is FREE.

Spices and teas – get great food bargains at another NYC close-outs discounter, Jack’s 99-Cent Store, with multiple locations around town. Aother NYC version of Family Dollar Stores.
