The 10th anniversary Other Israel Film Festival features both ticketed and FREE events including screenings of films by Palestinian and German filmmakers, panel discussions and more, exploring Israeli-Arab relationships and showcasing the diversity of Israeli society.
The OTHER ISRAEL FILM FESTIVAL is Dec. 1-8, 2016, at JCC Manhattan, 76th St. and Amsterdam Ave.
Free events include New Voices 2016, featuring three short documentaries:
- FACING THE WALL (Dir. Alamork Davidian, 26 min) – Surni, a young Ethiopian woman, wakes up heartbroken in an Israeli absorption center.
- KEYS (Dir. Hadar Reichman, 11 min) – Mayhem ensues when Aziz tries to teach his sister not to be afraid of Jews.
- TAKE 3 (Dir. Ayelet Bechar, 15 min) – Three generations of Palestinian refugees are filmed over the course of 47 years, as they return to visit their family’s destroyed village near Ramle.
Another film is a German co-production and a US premiere:
Beyond the Mountains and the Hills (Dir. Iran Kolirin, 90 min) – David is discharged from the army after serving 27 years. He finally returns to his family and tries to find himself in his new civilian life. When a friend suggests working for a company that markets dietary supplements, David sees it as an opportunity to get his foot in the door of the business world and make something out of himself. But this decision slowly gets him and his family entangled in the web of dark forces that rule life in Israel.
A festival pass is $40. Individual events range from FREE to $12, but the German Consulate is offering a discount to ticketed screenings for the entire Other Israel Film Festival.
