‘Merica is a new restaurant with a patriotic theme opening in the East Village, where burgers are named after presidential candidates, and there’s Americana memorabilia on the walls, including race cars and gun-toting cowboys.
The Donald Trump-themed burger, called T-Rump Mexican Burger, is ground meat from the rump of a cow, with slices of American and Mexican Pepperjack cheeses separated by a wall of onions, peppers and mushrooms. It makes fun of Trump’s campaign claim to build a wall along the US border with Mexico and make Mexico pay for it.
The Hillary Clinton-themed burger, called “100 calorie lie”, is a triple bacon cheeseburger slathered in mac n’ cheese, that’s falsely advertised as being 100 calories. It makes fun of accusations that Hilary has lied about her emails, Wall Street connections, etc
There also will be comfort food on the menu, and beer and wine.
‘Merica opens Saturday, Oct. 15, at 320 East Sixth Street in the East Village. and starting next week, Thursday nights will be debate nights, where customers can go head-to-head on various topics, both serious and not. There will be food-related penalties for the loser, such as having to pay for the winner’s meal.
One of the restaurant founders is Zach Neil, who told DNAInfo that he spent a good portion of his childhood around backwood, hillbilly southern Republicans, then moved to Pennsylvania and grew up next to a NASCAR race track, so the restaurant is flavored with those childhood memories.
Whether the Trump and Clinton burgers stay on the menu after Election Day next month he isn’t saying.
