If you need a taxi, today or any day, get one the same way you get an Uber: with a FREE e-hail app. Download the free e-hail taxi apps to get a licensed NYC taxi with a meter and no surcharge charges.
There also are dozens of locally-owned NYC livery-car businesses you can call or text, and also get a set price with no surge pricing surprises when you get to your destination or get the bill.
And Uber competitor Gett promises lower prices than Uber or your money back
Even though Uber lowered its rates recently, surge pricing still may keep fares higher.
Arro and Way2Ride are e-hail apps designed for New Yorkers, to e-hail both metered yellow cabs and green cabs. Plus, you’ll be supporting locally-owned taxi garages instead of Silicon Valley software billionaires.
Way2Ride is compatible with around 15,000 NYC taxis. It has to do with the payment system they use, so it’s best to download both apps to order up the nearest taxi.
Arro was developed by a NYC-based software company. According to Crain’s New York Business, PC Magazine rated it 3.5 out of 4 stars, and says Arro would likely appeal to taxi riders who are turned off by Uber’s Machiavellian machinations.
Way2Ride started as a payment app created by Verifone Systems, based in San Jose, Calif., and operates the entertainment and payment systems in about NYC’s yellow and green taxis. Now the app has been updated to include e-hailing for drivers using its system, who can get trip requests through their existing in-taxi equipment.
Next step is linking the two systems so taxi drivers can receive requests on either system, for a total of more than 30,000 NYC medallion cabs.
