NYC kids can participate in FREE computer coding classes from the volunteer experts of CoderDojo, a global movement to encourage creativity and interest in technology in a relaxed setting. NYC kids 7-17 can attend FREE monthly sessions in Midtown, one of 500 verified venues in 50 countries.
Each location is led by local, independent volunteer experts. Since NYC is becoming the high-tech capital of the East, there are plenty of experts ready to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with the next generation of website designers and entrepeneurs.
Who knows? The next Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg could be a CoderDojo participant.
Remember that Google’s East Coast heaadquarters are in Soho, and there’s a growing high-tech corridor in Brooklyn. Plus, NYC has more Apple Retail Stores and therefore more Apple genius bar experts than any other city, plus a Microsoft Retail Store on Fifth Avenue with yet more experts.
The next NYC event is Saturday, Jan. 30. Click here to find out more about CoderDojo in New York City.
Beyond New York City, to see if CoderDojo offers classes in your area, click here for a Dojo list by region.
If you don’t see your area listed, you can start one on your own or pass the information on to another person or organization that might be able to help get one started.
Without help from volunteers and businesses, CoderDojo wouldn’t be growing like it has.
To help grow the Free Coding for Kids Movement, contact your local Dojo directly and express interest in helping out.
Thanks to sister website Living on the Cheap for alerting NYC on the Cheap to this great freebie for NYC kids.
