Even though your entertainment budget is probably flatter than Christmas Eve champagne, you can still enjoy yourself at one of these five FREE events in NYC over the last few days of 2015, plus the last week of the magical holiday store windows and the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.
Good Riddance Day: Shred those bad memories of 2015 in Times Square today. Bring that break-up letter or email, the turn-down from the co-op board, etc., even an old grade school report card, and feed it to an industrial size shredder. Details here.
Glittering World: Today is the final day of a jaw-dropping display of traditional and modern Native American jewelry by top craftsmen. At the Museum of the American Indian in Lower Manhattan. Since it’s part of the Smithsonian, admission is free everyday, but go today and drool over the bling. I have. Several times. Details here.
The Borscht Belt: Hear stories about the famous vacation spot in the Catskills that spawned so many famous comedians. Illustrated lecture is at 6:30 at the Mid-Manhattan Library, across the street from the main branch guarded by the two stone lions. Get there no later than 6:15 to get a seat.
Nature Hike for Families: Join the Urban Park Rangers in Central Park for a 90-minute walk through the northern edge of the park, to discover wildlife and learn about the eco-system. Meet at the Dana Discovery Center at 110th St. and the Harlem Meer in time for an 11am start. Event website
Walking Manhattan: Another illustrated lecture at the Mid-Manhattan library that explores cultural treasures and historical sites in the heart of NYC for you to add to your list to visit at your leisure in 2016.
