The annual New York Cares winter coat drive launches today, November 17, at hundreds of locations around NYC, where you can donate a warm winter coat or jacket you no longer want, or one the kids have outgrown, to poor and needy New Yorkers.
60,000 New Yorkers spend each night in homeless shelters. Nearly half of them are children. With those kinds of numbers, services are stretched thin and resources are limited. You can help provide at least a little warmth this winter by donating a coat.
The annual New York Cares winter coat drive is as much a part of the holidays in NYC as the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree and the magical NYC department store holiday windows.
Last year the collection drive was extended beyond December 31st to meet demand.
There are hundreds of drop-off places, including NYPD precincts, stores such as Janovic, Grand Central Terminal, Wells Fargo bank branches, even auto dealerships.
Donating a winter coat or jacket will warm your heart along with the body of the recipient.
